Grace Community Center
At the Grace Community Center, we’re building a better community.
In January, 2007, Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Coral purchased the nearby 5.2 million dollar 56,000 square foot former Winn-Dixie grocery store for the purpose of bettering our North Ft. Myers community at the intersection of Hancock Bridge Parkway and Orange Grove Boulevard.
The Center will be a hub for the community, providing a path that our neighbors can live lives of freedom and dignity. Programs will include free and reduced fee medical care, literacy and GED classes, after school programs for our middle and high school students, a food bank and automotive job training. We also intend to provide some employment opportunities through our retail ventures including a coffee shop, bookstore, thrift store, moving company and child care. Community events include Family Fun Nights, regular worship services and recovery meetings.
We believe this facility and its ministries will not only greatly impact the Cape Coral-North Fort Myers area, but the Route 41 Corridor between Tampa and Naples. Each individual who is snatched from a life of violence and addictions and brought into a life of dignity and freedom can only help the crime ridden communities in Southwest Florida. Teams are already under development to feed the hungry, clothe the needy, heal the sick and educate the uneducated.
We at Grace Church believe that it is the responsibility, the obligation, of the local church to love their neighbor and their neighborhood. In many areas, the local church has spawned substantial community efforts in housing and economic development. There have been shopping centers built, senior housing units developed and communities transformed by the church and with the help of our community; we will do the same here.
